Card declined with code 05

What it means

Code 05 ("Do Not Honor") is a generic issuer decline — the issuer chose not to approve the charge but did not give a specific reason. It is the most common card decline.

What to do

• Do not immediately retry the same amount on the same card; rapid retries can trigger fraud blocks.
• Prompt the customer to call their issuer or use a different card.
• If you have Account Updater enabled, retries the next day often succeed when the issuer has refreshed expiry/PAN.
